Hundreds expected at gem and jade sale

By Kyaw Thu

MYANMAR’S largest gem and jade trading consortium, the Union of Myanmar Economic Holdings Limited (UMEHL), will hold its 20th biannual sale at the Myanma Gem Enterprise headquarters on Kaba Aye Pagoda Road from January 16 to 19.

The four-day event is expected to attract hundreds of local and overseas gem and jade merchants, although UMEHL officials declined to announce how many jade and gem lots will be on offer or their reserve prices.

Registration to attend the emporium opens on January 13 and carries a fee of K4000 for local merchants and 20 euros for foreign dealers. Enrolments for local gem and jade merchants who want to sell their products via the sale remains open until the emporium begins.

The viewing days are January 16 to 18 with the last day set aside for sales by auction or mutual agreement.
