THE Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, Senior General Than
Shwe, last month urged junior military engineers who were about
to be commissioned to military regiments to stay vigilant in a
changing world so they could more easily adapt to changing situations.
The Commander-in-Chief issued the call on December 23 during
a speech at the parade for the eighth batch of graduates from
Defence Services Technological Academy in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay
Division.
“Today’s battles are fought with the use of advanced
science and technology. This is why the capabilities of you, military
junior leaders, are required to improve as we are trying to build
a modern Tatmadaw,” Senior General Than Shwe said.
The Senior General also praised the innovations of engineers
that have contributed to the development of the world’s
industrial sector, which have benefited humanity as a whole.
“Your initiatives and innovations are necessary for our
agro-based country, which is striving to transform itself into
an industrial one,” he said.
He also reminisced about the history of military engineers,
who have often been deployed like infantry regiments in battles.
He also said that the Tatmadaw has always been a patriotic organisation.
“As you know, we Tatmadaw members are the ones who do not
regard any entitlements as privileges and do not care much whether
we get salaries and rations or not. But inspired by our patriotic
fervor, we will never hesitate to sacrifice our lives whenever
necessary,” the Senior General said.
