THE Myanmar Motion Picture Academy Awards Ceremony rarely passes by without the occurrence of at least one significant event or the setting of a new milestone that sets it apart from other years, and the 52nd annual ceremony, held on December 30, was no exception.

 

THE Department of Fisheries last month announced the establishment of a protected area for the rare Ayeyarwaddy dolphin in the upper reaches of the Ayeyarwaddy River.

 
The Minister of Energy, Brigadier-General Lun Thi, said in his opening address at the meeting that the project would promote sustainable energy use and would increase access to education by bringing power supplies to more remote schools.

THE United Nations World Food Program said that its food-for-education project in Rakhine State had resulted in a significant rise in school enrolments among girls.
 

THE government plans to implement a project to grow castor bean plants on 50,000 acres in each of Myanmar’s nine military divisions for use as biofuel, Lieutenant-General Myint Swe, the Chairman of the Yangon Division Peace and Development Council, said last month.

THE Seed Division under the Myanma Agriculture Service has begun distributing more than 100,000 baskets of registered paddy seeds to selected farmers under a government plan to achieve a target yield of 100 baskets an acre.
