award, while hip-hop boy-band Examplez were named most popular
group of 2005.
The awards are given out based on the volume of album sales
at retail music stores in 31 townships in the Yangon City area. The
award for best selling Myanmar traditional music album went to
country singer Khin Maung Toe for the album Akyaik Sone Mandalay
Thachin Myar (My Favourite Mandalay Songs).
Producer U Soe Hlaing, was disappointed the albums of late singer
Htoo Ein Thin and Iron Cross lead vocalist Y Wine did not win
any awards.
“I thought their albums would win an award. But my speculation
was wrong,” he lamented.
Very few awards went to female vocalists this year, due to the
fact that very few female singers released solo albums in 2005.
This is the fourth time the annual awards have been held and
the event was also a celebration of City FM’s fourth anniversary.
