Our Mission
Our mission is to provide durable, affordable wheelchairs to individuals who need them most. In Myanmar, many disabled people face significant barriers to mobility, healthcare, and education. We aim to break down these barriers and ensure that everyone, regardless of their disability, has the opportunity to live a full and active life. We work closely with local communities, healthcare professionals, and humanitarian organizations to ensure that wheelchairs are delivered to those who need them the most.
Who We Are
The Myanmar Wheelchair Fund is a dedicated team of individuals, volunteers, and partners committed to improving the lives of people with disabilities in Myanmar. We are a non-profit organization driven by a shared vision of a world where every person, regardless of their disability, has the opportunity to live a full and independent life.
Founded by a group of passionate advocates for disability rights and humanitarian aid, our organization is focused on providing essential mobility aids—specifically wheelchairs—to individuals who are affected by disabilities and in need of support.
Our team is diverse, consisting of experienced professionals from various sectors, including healthcare, community development, and logistics. We work closely with local organizations, medical professionals, and volunteers to identify those in need and ensure that every wheelchair we provide is fitted correctly and meets the specific needs of the individual.
We understand the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities in Myanmar, especially those who are affected by ongoing civil unrest, natural disasters, and economic hardship. By delivering wheelchairs to those in need, we strive to break down the physical and social barriers that prevent people from fully participating in their communities.
At the Myanmar Wheelchair Fund, we believe in the power of collaboration. We work alongside local hospitals, clinics, and disability-focused organizations to maximize our reach and impact. Together, we aim to create a more inclusive Myanmar—where everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive.
We are more than just a charity. We are a community of changemakers committed to transforming lives, one wheelchair at a time.
What We Do
The Myanmar Wheelchair Fund works tirelessly to:
Distribute wheelchairs to individuals affected by disability, particularly in remote and underserved regions of Myanmar.
Raise awareness about the challenges faced by people with disabilities, and advocate for greater inclusion and accessibility within the community.
Collaborate with local healthcare providers to ensure the proper fitting of wheelchairs and provide ongoing support for recipients.
Fundraise to support our mission, ensuring that we can continue to provide mobility aids and related services to those who need them most.
Our Impact
Since our inception, the Myanmar Wheelchair Fund has been able to distribute thousands of wheelchairs, providing people with the mobility they need to live more independently. Through partnerships with local hospitals, clinics, and community organizations, we are able to reach even the most remote areas of Myanmar. Every wheelchair we distribute is a step toward a more inclusive society, where people with disabilities are empowered to achieve their fullest potential.

Our Programs
At the Myanmar Wheelchair Fund, we are dedicated to improving the lives of people with disabilities by providing essential mobility aids and promoting inclusion. Our programs focus on delivering practical, life-changing support to those who need it the most. Through collaboration with local communities, healthcare providers, and international partners, we aim to make mobility accessible to all. Below are the key programs we run to fulfill our mission:
1. Wheelchair Distribution Program
Our primary program is the distribution of wheelchairs to individuals across Myanmar who are unable to afford or access this essential mobility aid. We prioritize those in remote or underserved regions, as well as individuals affected by disabilities resulting from civil war, natural disasters, or economic hardship.
Wheelchair Fitting: We ensure each wheelchair is correctly fitted to meet the individual’s specific needs, enhancing comfort and mobility.
Reach: We work with local healthcare facilities, community groups, and social workers to identify and serve those who need wheelchairs most.
Community Outreach: Regular visits to villages and towns ensure that people who may not have access to healthcare centers or other support services are also able to benefit from our program.
2. Wheelchair Maintenance & Repair Program
A wheelchair is not just a one-time gift; it’s an ongoing tool for independence. To ensure that the wheelchairs we provide continue to serve their purpose, we offer a Wheelchair Maintenance & Repair Program.
Free Repair Services: We provide free repair and maintenance services for recipients to keep their wheelchairs in good working condition.
Training Local Technicians: We train local technicians to perform basic repairs, ensuring that wheelchair users have access to prompt support in their own communities.
Preventive Care: By promoting proper maintenance, we reduce the risk of wheelchair damage and increase their longevity.
3. Advocacy & Awareness Program
Our Advocacy & Awareness Program seeks to change public perceptions of disability and promote inclusivity in Myanmar. We aim to create a society where people with disabilities are seen as equal participants and are provided with the same opportunities for education, employment, and social engagement as everyone else.
Community Engagement: We conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public on the rights of people with disabilities and the importance of inclusive spaces.
Policy Advocacy: We work with government agencies and other non-governmental organizations to advocate for policies that protect the rights and enhance the opportunities of people with disabilities.
Disability Inclusion: We partner with schools, workplaces, and public spaces to promote accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities.
4. Training & Empowerment Program
We believe in not only providing mobility aids but also empowering individuals to live independently and confidently. Through our Training & Empowerment Program, we offer:
Skills Training: Providing individuals with disabilities the skills they need to be self-sufficient, whether it’s through vocational training or other educational opportunities.
Community Support: Connecting wheelchair recipients with local disability groups and services to ensure they have ongoing support and opportunities for personal development.
Leadership Training: Empowering people with disabilities to take leadership roles in their communities and advocate for themselves and others.
5. Emergency Response Program
In times of natural disasters or civil unrest, the need for mobility aids can become even more critical. Our Emergency Response Program ensures that people with disabilities in crisis situations have access to immediate support.
Rapid Distribution: In the event of a disaster or conflict, we quickly mobilize resources to deliver wheelchairs to those who need them most.
Partnerships with Relief Organizations: We collaborate with humanitarian aid organizations to coordinate wheelchair distribution in emergency settings, ensuring that the most vulnerable are not overlooked.
Each of these programs plays an essential role in fulfilling our mission to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Myanmar. Through these efforts, we aim to provide not just mobility, but also dignity, independence, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
