A group of DJs of Burmese heritage and the Burmese diaspora are linking up to throw a fundraiser event for Myanmar earthquake relief in London on May 16.
Helmed by Ambient Babestation Meltdown, Izzi and KOSO/DJ Batcum, the event will take place at Aaja Basement and combine food, art and music, with SIIIO and the butcher bird also on the bill.
Burmese chef Robert Khaing will serve food and snacks, while Burmese products will be on sale from stalls run by Rice Over Everything and Seint Jewellery.
The money raised will be donated to Better Burma, a charity currently providing relief from the effects of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28.
More than 5,000 people died, making it the second deadliest earthquake in the country’s recorded history, and more than 6 million people have been affected, exacerbating issues caused by the ongoing civil war.
Better Burma provides critical aid such as food, water, baby formula, medicine, hygiene kits, generators and rescue equipment. You can donate here.
“Myanmar is still home to me” says KOSO, “and having lived there recently, I’ve seen how hard life already is due to the political turmoil. This earthquake was the last thing people needed and it’s heartbreaking to see so many lives lost, lives that could have been saved with better infrastructure and support.”
All are welcome to attend the event, which takes place from 6:PM to midnight, with advance tickets priced at £7 to 15 + booking fee. Tickets on the door will be a minimum £10 donation.
